Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation Donates Over $28,000 to Iowa and South Dakota Area Charities in 2024

CEDAR FALLS, IA – The Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation is pleased to announce that it has awarded over $179,000 to 39 Midwestern charities providing key community services, including over $28,000 to Iowa and South Dakota area 501(c)(3) organizations.
Created in 2002, the Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation has donated more than $2.5 million to various philanthropic organizations in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio and South Dakota. Each year, the foundation remains committed to supporting the communities within Gordon Flesch Company’s (GFC’s) territories, honoring the memory of founder Gordon Flesch’s mission to give back to the areas where GFC’s employees and customers live and work.
In addition to its annual donations, the Foundation also engages in targeted giving for emergency disaster relief. This year funds were allocated to Iowa nonprofits for flood relief in affected communities after record-high river levels.
Organizations in the Iowa and South Dakota area receiving grants in 2024 are:
- The Teacher Store (teacherstore.org) is a mobile resource providing free school supplies to area K-12 teachers to better the educational experiences of students in eastern Iowa.
- Rebuilding Together Muscatine County (rebuildingtogethermuscatine.org) works to preserve affordable home ownership and revitalize neighborhoods by bringing volunteers and communities together to rehabilitate the homes of persons in need.
- Call to Freedom (calltofreedom.org) serves those who have been impacted by human trafficking and exploitation in South Dakota through holistic services.
- My Happy Place (myhappyplaces.org/mason-city-ia) is comprised of passionate volunteers whose intention is to create healing environments for individuals who are struggling with a serious health issue.
- Crisis Intervention Service (cishelps.org) provides comprehensive domestic abuse and sexual assault services throughout 15 counties in North Central Iowa.
- Horizons Unlimited of Palo Alto County (horizons-unlimited.net) works with adults who have developmental, mental and/or physical disabilities, providing a unique variety of programs that focus on the abilities of people with disabilities.
- Café on Vine (cafeonvine.com) promotes the dignity of each person by feeding the hungry and advocating for an end to hunger in our community.
The Gordon Flesch Company (GFC) has a longstanding tradition of charitable giving and philanthropy. In 2001 following the September 11th attacks, company employees and the Flesch family agreed to donate funds instead of hosting the annual employee recognition dinners. This initiative, led by Gordon’s sons, John, Tom and Bill Flesch, marked the beginning of what would become the Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation.
Unlike most corporate giving programs, the Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation is managed entirely by company associates. Each year associates nominate local community organizations that are close to their hearts. The Foundation’s board of directors annually reviews nominations and selects award recipients.
“We are truly honored to support these local non-profit organizations in their efforts to expand their impactful work,” says Kelly Moran, President of the Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation. “It is incredibly humbling to be a part of the meaningful work that this year’s grant recipients are doing to strengthen our communities.”
